秋田の食卓に並ぶ伝統料理「いぶりがっこ」。その伝統を産み、支えたのは日本一美味しいと謳われた幻の大根「沼山大根」であった。一度途絶えたその大根の目を覚まそうとしている三人の男達はどんな想いを抱いているのか 。彼らにとってその大根は、近代化で変化し続ける農業の有り方、そして現代の私たちの生き方を問い直させてくれる大切なものであった。「沼山からの贈りもの」はそんな幻の大根を追求する男達の熱き記録である。

“Iburigakko” –– a delicacy that define the food culture of Akita, Japan. The tradition of the Iburigakko (poickle-smoked Japanese radish) emerged thanks to one peculiar breed of radish born in the cold mountains of Numayama, Akita. Decades after the Numayama radish went extinct, three young farmers took up the mantle to bring the Numayama radish back to life. The attempt to revive the unusual vegetable lead to the farmers revealing the flaws of the modern-day agribusiness as well as the modern ways of life in Japanese commercial society. “A gift from Numayama” is a documentary that explores and unveils the untold stories of the three change-makers of Akita.
